Upgrade Your Phone Any Time
Frequently Asked Questions
Anytime Upgrade is available with the Unlimited Plus plan and gives you the freedom to upgrade your phone, even if you still have a remaining balance on your device. Each Anytime Upgrade transaction has a $35 fee and you may upgrade up to four times per line within a rolling 12-month period.
To qualify for an Anytime Upgrade:
- Return your old device in good working condition (able to turn on, free from liquid or physical damage and have a functional screen with no cracks).
- Make sure your account is in good standing.
- Purchase the new phone on a device payment plan or pay in full.
If you’re still paying off your current phone, just return it in good working condition and we’ll cover the remaining financed amount. If your current phone is paid off, you can trade it in for the best trade-in offer (must power on and off, and have no liquid damage).
If the device is not received in good working order, your offer will be adjusted to fair market value.
If you’re already an Unlimited Plus customer and have been enrolled for at least one billing cycle, you can take advantage of Anytime Upgrade at any time. If you’re upgrading to Unlimited Plus from an Unlimited or By the Gig plan, there is a 30-day waiting period before you can upgrade your phone using Anytime Upgrade. After upgrading using Anytime Upgrade, you must remain on the Unlimited Plus plan for at least 2 billing cycles.

View the Anytime Upgrade Terms and Conditions for more details.
Even if you have an outstanding balance on your device, you may still qualify for an early upgrade if you:
- Pay off at least half of your Device Payment Plan. Sign in to make an additional payment.
- Return your old device to a Spectrum Mobile Store in good working condition (able to turn on, free from liquid or physical damage and have a functional screen with no cracks).
- Make sure your account is in good standing.
- Have enough financing available to cover the purchase of a new device.
Once you select a new device, you’ll be asked to tell us a bit about your trade-in. Next, you will get an estimated value of your trade-in. Once your device is received, we will verify the fair market offer based on condition and determine the final value. This value is applied as a credit on your next bill or over the remaining device payment plan installments. Learn more about device credit.
You will receive a fair market offer for your device, plus you may receive an additional $100 trade-in value to put toward your new device. You can find out more from the Trade-In Program FAQs.
We accept smartphones from various OEMs including Apple, Samsung, Google and Motorola, as well as various tablets with value. We do not accept smartwatches at this time.
For Anytime and Early Upgrade transactions, your Device Payment Plan will be paid off for you at time of purchase of your new Spectrum device. For trade-in transactions, you will receive your credits over equal installments towards the device payment plan on the newly purchased Spectrum device. If you paid in full for your new device you will receive a one-time account level credit. Learn more about device credit.
You can track the status of your Trade-In by accessing Spectrum’s trade-in portal after mailing your device. The link will be emailed after you complete your Spectrum device purchase.
To qualify for our trade-in program, your device must meet the following requirements:
- It's paid in full
- It's able to turn on
- It has no liquid damage
- You've saved your data, and the device has been wiped and restored to factory settings.
- All security features have been turned off.
To learn more about trading in your old device, read our Trade-In Program FAQs or view our Spectrum Mobile Trade-In Program Terms and Conditions.
You can upgrade your device and activate it on an existing line of Spectrum Mobile service if you've paid for your current device in full or if you qualify for an anytime or early upgrade. Learn more.
Once your device is received, we will verify the fair market offer based on the device condition. If the condition is not as indicated or you sent the wrong model, you may receive an adjusted offer. If your device is not received, you will not be provided trade-in credit. All rejected offers will result in the transaction being cancelled and your device being shipped back to you. Anytime Upgrade transactions with a waived Device Payment Plan will result in a chargeback for this amount.
If we receive the device after the chargeback, we’ll provide you with a revised device value or you may request that your device be returned to you.
You can select your shipping options by accessing Spectrum’s Trade-in Portal. The link to the portal will be emailed after you complete your Spectrum device purchase. You can select either a: USPS Label, UPS QR Code or a USPS Return Kit to send your device back.
There are no fees associated with your trade-in to get credit for your newly purchased device.
Early Upgrades have a $45 fee which is waived for Spectrum Mobile Protection Plan (SMPP) customers, or customers who upgraded from an Apple device.
Anytime Upgrade requires a $35 upgrade fee.
If your device is already paid off but is inoperable when you upgrade, its value will be assessed at $0.
