Spectrum Biometric Data Privacy Notice
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2020
Your privacy is important to Spectrum. We value the trust you place in us when you use our products and services, interact with us through our online and mobile platforms and tools, such as our websites and mobile applications, or interact with us through person-to-person customer service and sales channels or other electronic means, such as our call centers and/or Spectrum store locations. We take seriously the responsibility of protecting your privacy and the information we collect about you.
The Spectrum Biometric Data Privacy Notice (“Notice”) detailed below describes the type of biometric data we collect, how we use and share that information, and our storage and retention practices associated with the biometric data we maintain. In reviewing this Notice, we encourage you to also review the Spectrum Privacy Policy for more information about our overall privacy practices, as well as details about other rights you may have under certain federal and state laws when you use, subscribe to, or interact with certain Spectrum products or services.
WHAT BIOMETRIC DATA DOES SPECTRUM COLLECT AND HOW IS IT USED?
At this time, Spectrum only collects and uses biometric data if a customer voluntarily chooses to add additional protection to his or her account by enrolling in our Voice ID service, which allows secure authentication to access your account by using your voiceprint to confirm your identity. For example, when you contact Spectrum by calling one of our call centers, you may be asked whether you would like to enroll in our Voice ID service for authentication and fraud detection purposes associated with accessing your Spectrum account. For purposes of this Notice, when we talk about biometric data we are referring to the physical information we collect about you (such as your voiceprint) based on your decision to enroll in our Voice ID service.
By voluntarily enrolling in our Voice ID service, Spectrum, through a trusted third-party service provider engaged by Spectrum, will convert a recording of your voice into a digital voiceprint. Your voiceprint then essentially acts as a password to facilitate authentication of your identity by comparing your voice to a digital print stored on file. Once you enroll in our Voice ID service, your voiceprint is captured and stored for future use for as long as you remain enrolled in the service. If you later choose to de-enroll and opt-out of participating in the Voice ID service, Spectrum will permanently destroy your voiceprint.
WHEN AND WITH WHOM DOES SPECTRUM SHARE OR SELL YOUR BIOMETRIC DATA?
Spectrum does not sell your biometric data to any third party for any purpose. We may share or disclose your biometric information to a limited number of third-party service providers who perform business activities and functions on our behalf for the purpose of supporting the Voice ID service. These third-party service providers are authorized to access or use your biometric data only as necessary to provide these services on our behalf. Spectrum maintains written agreements with these third-party service providers that require them to keep your biometric data confidential and secure, and prohibit them from using the information for any other purpose.
HOW DOES SPECTRUM PROTECT YOUR BIOMETRIC DATA AND FOR HOW LONG DOES SPECTRUM KEEP IT?
Spectrum is committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and we take our responsibility to secure the information we collect and maintain seriously. We use reasonable security, including technical, physical, and administrative controls, to secure the information we collect and maintain about consumers.
Spectrum retains your voiceprint for as long as you remain enrolled as an active participant in the Voice ID service. If you later choose to de-enroll and opt-out of participating in the Voice ID service, Spectrum will permanently destroy your voiceprint.
