Mobile Taxes, Fees and Average Monthly Bill
The average Verizon customer pays over $17/mo ($17.17) in added taxes and fees. That’s over $200/year ($206.04).
The average AT&T customer pays over $15/mo ($15.37) in added taxes and fees. That’s over $180/year ($184.44).
The average T-Mobile Essentials customer pays over $12/mo ($12.64) in added taxes and fees. That’s over $150/year ($151.68).
“Coverage includes AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile postpaid, non-corporate liable, and 18+ consumers that have access to their wireless billing information and data, have only handset devices on their wireless plan, and have taxes and fees present on the bill provided. T-Mobile bills consist only of accounts in which every line is on an Essentials or Experience plan. Taxes and fees are based on the average available taxes and fees assessed on each wireless account, with an average monthly total cost of approximately $169.64 (mix of individual and family plans), for each billing period from August’25 – March ’26 with the data collected from October’25 to April ’26. Taxes and fees include but are not limited to the following items: Administrative Fee, Universal Service Charge, Regulatory Charge, 911 Fee, Sales Tax, Gross Receipts, and Other Taxes and Fees. Billing Snapshots data is tabulated and reported on a monthly basis based on a sample of approximately 2,080 respondents per wave, reflecting the "most recent, completed bill" of the respondent at time of collection. Reported taxes, fees and surcharges may vary based on geography, plan type and number of lines in the plan. While it is HarrisX's intention to provide Billing Snapshots data that is nationally representative, some variance may occur due to sample limitation."
Data is sourced from HarrisX’s Billing Snapshots tool and coverage includes AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile postpaid, non-corporate liable, and 18+ consumers that have access to their wireless billing information and data, have only handset devices on their wireless plan, and have an unlimited data plan. Data was collected from July ’25 – July ’26 with bills from April ’25 – July ’26 with calculations based on bills with one, two, or three voice lines only and are restricted to consumers who subscribed to Spectrum for home internet services at the time of the survey. Average total monthly cost of these wireless bills is approximately $145.68. Calculations for comparison include base plan cost and all available taxes and fees. User specific charges that may skew base plan price, such as device financing, equipment charges, overage charges, international charges, insurance, voicemail charges, etc. are excluded. Billing Snapshots data is tabulated and reported on a monthly basis based on a sample of approximately 1825 respondents per wave, reflecting the "most recent, completed bill" of the respondent at time of collection. Charges vary based on carrier, plan type, plan name, and number of lines in the plan. While it is HarrisX's intention to provide Billing Snapshots data that is nationally representative, some variance may occur due to sample limitation. The Billing Snapshots tool does not collect Spectrum mobile bills. Any comparisons made between T-Mobile and Spectrum, AT&T and Spectrum, Verizon and Spectrum, or any combination of these carriers are done at the discretion of Spectrum based on Spectrum’s advertised pricing.
