Tackling technology together

The pandemic placed unprecedented technology-related demands on K-12 education. A new study commissioned by Spectrum Enterprise and conducted by the EdWeek Research Center suggests that these demands renewed and ignited interest in the technology partnership model. This model entails connecting school districts with external organizations such as municipal government, state government, and internet service providers, allowing all parties to pool resources and share expenses related to community technology needs, such as home internet access.

Providing reliable home internet access is the main goal of contemporary partnerships, many of which increased the speed and intensity of their work and saw funding increases due to the technology demands of remote learning placed on schools during the pandemic. Partnerships are widely perceived as beneficial by participants.

For those interested in exploring partnerships of their own, the paper concludes with recommendations based on the experiences of the four case study networks.
